podjacking

This is great guerilla marketing.

Record a marketing message on mp3, take an iPod, attach an iTrip FM transmitter, and stand on a street corner with signs saying "Tune into FM 88.0" at a rush hour intersection. Then go up to people to see if they like your message/song/ whatever. Narrowcasting for sure, but you create secondary buzz-factor - people will tell their friends about the incident.

From here:

Sometimes the artist, who describes his work as post-cultural mood rock, is forced to take drastic measures to get his sound out,: Along with manager Shawn Matthews, Zipf has developed the innovative marketing tool of "podjacking"—using an iPod and transmitter to briefly hijack radio airwaves so that passersby in the immediate vicinity can hear his music.

Video of them in action here.
